Template for POPs in precipitation

This format should be used for submitting all relevant persistent organic pollutants (POPs) measured in precipitation

Points to note:

  • Report precipitation amount from the wet only (or bulk) sampler and the co-located official meteorological rain gauge when available.
  • For days without rain, set value to 0.00/flag to 000 for precipitation amount, and value to missing/flag to 890 for the compound.
  • This template can be used for total deposition measurements also, then use matrix precp+dry_dep. NOTE. If however concentration has been measured, this should be reported together with precipitation
  • Include information on both the sampling and analytical instruments.
  • Include information on how sample is treated in the lab under “sample preparation “. Use special setup with information on combination of Soxhlet+Hexane+13C+Silica
  • Include information if been part of any relevant laboratory intercomparison in the QA measures

You could download the template and start to modify the text with your own metadata. Due to limitations of the online portal we could not provide files with the .nas file extension. So please download the text file and edit, and remember to use the .nas file-extension when you create your datafile: pops_precip.txt

Flags commonly used with this format:

All the flags defined for EBAS can be used, and the data submitter is encourage to go through the list of all EBAS flags prior to submitting to ensure that appropriate flagging is done.
Flags are grouped in four categories: V (valid measurement), I (invalid measurement), M (missing measurement) or H (hidden and invalid measurements)..
Apply '000' for valid measurements without any annotations.
The most common flags for these measurements are:

The example template given below contains the metadata fields that are commonly included when reporting data related to this specific template. Some of these metadata elements may not be relevant for your data reporting, like AIRS station ID for stations outside North America or the various QA measure data when there is no QA measure for the data. Such metadata elements could be let out. If you want to include additional metadata elements that are not given in the example template, there is a complete list here. In case of any doubt about such additional metadata, please consult the EBAS team!
